Discovery Channel: Deception with Keith Barry from Serena751215 on Vimeo.
Keith is utterly uncompromising on the subject, unwilling to allow any chink of tolerance through. ?At least do a little bit of research,? he exhorts. ?Educate yourself before you go to a psychic. If you're going to buy a car, would you just go to a scrapyard?? Buy books on cold reading, he suggests, to give yourself a sporting chance of spotting deception.
Don't behave like a gullible fool. And yet he acknowledges that ?there is a firm amount of believers out there and nothing you say will ever convince them?. It?s not that he doesn't believe in a spirit world, just that he doesn't believe any one of us can contact that world, and nor should we try. ?These people are trying to find peace, but there are other ways to
find peace,? he says. ?You have to let go, and accept they aren't coming back.?
This ?letting go? is something Keith learned about the hard way. A year and a half ago, his grandfather was viciously attacked in his home in Waterford, and later died of his injuries. No one has yet been convicted of any crime. At the time, Keith led a vocal campaign, calling for justice and greater legislative powers to tackle aggravated burglary. Although far less
visibly now, Barry continues to campaign for a change in the law, ?so at least his death wasn't in vain. That's all I can hope for. I purposely stood back, and let the gardai do their job, but because I stood back, I haven't heard anything more from our ?wonderful' [his sarcasm is searing] Justice Minister Dermot Ahern. As far as I can see, he's done eff all since
then to help anybody,? Keith says.
?We'll never know what happened him,? he says now of his grandfather, ?but we do know he didn't ? as was printed in a lot of papers ? just all of a sudden have a heart attack and drop down and die. We knew the man and we saw the state he was in. It was a horrific time for us all. I'm only the grandson, although I was probably closest to him of all the grandkids; me
and one other were really close to him. But I can only imagine what my father and his three brothers went through.? The very real tragedy is that assault in his own home was what Mr Barry, who was 82, feared most. ?He'd four locks up and down his door,? says Keith. ?Whoever came along forced all four locks open, nine o'clock at night, his alarm going off. I know for
sure someone in Waterford has to know something about what happened, but no one's coming forward.?
However, when I suggest that this may in some way account for Barry's sharp interest in phoney psychics, he is adamant that this is not so, that his interest pre-dates the tragic events of last September, goes back indeed almost as far as his interest in magic. Keith was 14 when he started practising his craft, inspired by a book called Magic For The Complete Klutz,
but studied cosmetic science in Galway. ?I used to invent women's make-up, everything from eye-make-up removers to foundations, for a Swedish company called Oriflame.? So what happened? ?I found out I was far too heterosexual to be in the cosmetic industry,? he laughs. ?I'm not a metrosexual, I don't shave here? ? he says, pulling at the neck of his T-shirt to show
off a hairy chest ? ?I don't do any of that stuff. So I decided, ?I'm going to become a magician.??
(I've found this interesting)

to see / take part of it; I think personally that it hasn't got much usage (those tricks), but they
could have usage (be important) when used purposely to increase the sale or convince some people
some of his tricks; yes, his rich, because he's made a business from his passion and that's
important; but not everyone wants to earn this way (or at least not me); please post comments on how
this can be used or what is in it important and examples of usage please (off course hypnosis and
